Migros, Givaudan and the Bühler Group jointly opened The Cultured Hub in Kemptthal near Lindau in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland, on December 3. The scaling and growth service for the development of sustainable food and other cell products provides interested companies with modern product development laboratories, cell culture capacities and equipment, as well as a partner network, further details of which can be found in a press release issued by founding companies of the new hub. “The launch of The Cultured Hub is a pivotal moment in the global push for sustainable food production”, comments Yannick Gaechter, CEO of The Cultured Hub.
At the hub, up to three companies can work at the same time in fully separate suites. The cutting-edge biotech facility facilitates pilot projects with production capacities of up to 1,000 liters. “The Cultured Hub is designed to bridge the scale-up gap for companies, enabling them to retain equity, protect intellectual property, and fast-track their journey to market without high capital investment”, as Ian Roberts, Chief Technology Officer of the Bühler Group, explains in the press release. For Matthew Robin, CEO, Elsa Group at Migros Industries, the hub represents a “paradigm shift” in relation to the manner in which we approach food production. ce/hs
