Schlieren ZH – Circus Knie has incorporated several drones into its new programme. The drones were programmed and built by Verity Studios in the Greater Zurich Area.

Circus Knie’s new show is the “world’s first and one-of-a-kind performance to feature a self-flying drone swarm in a travelling circus”. Franco Knie Jr. will present the performance together with his wife Linna Knie-Sun and their son Chris Rui.

Raffaelo D’Andrea developed the drones at the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich and at his company Verity Studios in Schlieren, where the drones for the circus were also programmed and built.

“As a Swiss company, Verity Studios is proud to contribute to the magic of the circus,” said D’Andrea.

Verity Studios specializes in the use of drones in the entertainment industry. Its drones were featured in the short film Sparked, as well as at a Metallica rock concert. To ensure a high level of safety and functioning of the self-flying drone swarm in enclosed spaces, Verity Studios uses artificial intelligence, special algorithms as well as an indoor positioning system – GPS technology does not function sufficiently indoors.

Another advantage of the technology is that the individual drones are able to recognize their role in the choreography and perform it themselves.
