Three Swiss brands have joined forces to launched the Extraordinary Jacket: HeiQ from Schlieren in the canton of Zurich, Mammut from Seon in the canton of Aargau and Nespresso from Vevey in the canton of Vaud. A joint press release describes the jacket as a “unique garment in the outdoor apparel industry”. It will be available to buy from the Mammut online shop and selected stores, as well as from the Swiss e-commerce website of Nespresso.
The jacket is said to retain 20 percent more heat than a conventional insulating jacket of a similar thickness. The manufacturers attribute this to a modification made to Mammut’s super-light Ajungilak insulation, which, the press release explains, now incorporates the innovative HeiQ XReflex 3D technology powered by Xefco. In turn, this contains some of the aluminum from recycled Nespresso capsules. The newly aluminized scrim layer reflects the body’s heat radiation within the insulation layers, so that the wearer no longer has to use their own energy to stay warm. The result is effortless comfort even under harsh and demanding conditions.
According to Nic Brandenberger, CEO of Mammut, the collaboration between the three partners celebrates all-Swiss innovation: By turning aluminum from used Nespresso capsules into Mammut outerwear and leveraging HeiQ XReflex technology, “we are providing our customers with superior temperature regulation-performance with less weight/volume”. Carlo Centonze, CEO of the HeiQ Group, adds that this innovation is proof of the fact that “the same coffee can make you warm more than once”. ce/mm
