Huber+Suhner from Pfäffikon in the canton of Zurich has been awarded a contract to manufacture and supply radar antennas to HL Klemove. Headquartered in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, the autonomous driving solutions supplier will integrate the antennas in radar sensors, further details of which can be found in a press release.
The radars are designed to realistically map the vehicle’s surroundings, without which automated driving would be an impossibility. According to Huber+Suhner, its 3D antenna technology based on metallized plastic plays a vital role in ensuring that the driver assistance systems can determine the position, relative speed and direction of movement of other road users and objects with the highest degree of reliability, even from great distance and at high speeds.
According to Han-yeol Yu, who heads up the Autonomous Sensor R&D Center at HL Klemove, the company’s decision in favor of Huber+Suhner was made because, beyond the technical solution itself, the Swiss firm impressed with its “product and process development competence” as well as its expertise “from engineering to series production”. In the view of Drew Nixon, COO of the Transportation segment at Huber+Suhner, this contract represents “another strong example” in the implementation of the company’s strategic growth targets - “namely in the automotive sector in Asia and in particular in the use of 3D antenna technology”. ce/mm
