Opfikon - The neurotech start-up IDUN Technologies has received Eurostars funding together with its project partners Cerebra Medical Ltd. and Pilotfish Nederland BV. This grant will be put towards the development of a personalized sleep improvement platform.

The start-up IDUN Technologies from Opfikon in the canton of Zurich has received funding from the Eurostars program for its joint project with the technology company Cerebra Medical Ltd. from Winnipeg in the Canadian province of Manitoba and the Dutch product development agency Pilotfish Nederland BV. IDUN is set to play a key role in the project with its sleep quality measurement method via in-ear technology, further details of which can be found in a press release.

The spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) integrates neurotechnology into earbuds to measure brain waves. Up to now, high-quality brainwave measurements to monitor sleep quality have only been possible in dedicated sleep laboratories.

For the joint sleep improvement platform, the project partners use the Odds Ratio Product (ORP) algorithm developed and patented by Cerebras. This allows brain activity to be recorded and evaluated more deeply than is possible using conventional methods, which facilitates continuous sleep depth measurement as well. The Amsterdam-based agency Pilotfish is supporting the platform development by contributing their design expertise.

“The most exciting part will be to use ORP to detect which lifestyle factors make a difference on your sleep quality”, comments Amy Bender, Principal Investigator for this project and Director of Clinical Sleep Science at Cerebra, in  another press release. Behavior change strategies and gamification should help to create “a meaningful sleep improvement platform that will actually provide insights to help you sleep and perform better”, she adds. ko
