The Schaffhausen-based Loft Dynamics and the helicopter company Blackcomb Helicopters from Vancouver in the Canadian Province of British Columbia are entering into a strategic partnership. Blackcomb Helicopters will use the virtual reality (VR) flight simulator developed by Loft Dynamics in order to improve its flight training for pilots, further details of which can be found in a press release.
Blackcomb Helicopters, which specializes in offering helicopter touring services, intends to use the simulator to “increase its flight training capabilities while also removing the inherent safety risks and the carbon emissions of in-flight training”, as the press release explains. Moreover, Loft Dynamics and Blackcomb Helicopters are planning to work closely with the Canadian authorities, including Transport Canada (TC), with the aim of demonstrating the advantages of the technology in terms of safety and pilot training for the Canadian aviation industry.
Blackcomb Helicopters will use the Airbus H125 VR training device at the company’s Boundary Bay Airport location in Metro Vancouver. This is an exact replica of the most widely used aircraft by Airbus Helicopters and Blackcomb Helicopters. The pilots fly in demanding coastal and mountainous conditions. Suitable real-world training for such scenarios is inherently dangerous.
“Our technology has significantly improved pilot safety and skills for companies operating in similarly complex conditions and scenarios, whether it’s search and rescue missions in the Swiss Alps or heli tours in the Colorado Rockies”, comments Fabi Riesen, founder and CEO of Loft Dynamics, in the press release. “We look forward to bringing these benefits to Blackcomb and working together to showcase a more sustainable, safe, and scalable future for aviation - in Canada and beyond”, he concludes. ce/ko
