MAN Diesel & Turbo is creating new jobs at its premises in Zurich, marking its satisfaction with the location.
“We want to increase our personnel by five per cent,” said site manager Hans Gut in an interview with “Tages-Anzeiger”. This equates to 40 additional positions, with the MAN Group employing a total of 800 people in Zurich.
The news comes following MAN Diesel & Turbo’s rebranding under the name MAN Energy Solutions. Its new company sign was this week unveiled at the entrance to Escher-Wyss-Platz. “We are looking to the future and want to invest in new technologies,” explained Gut in the interview.
Despite its rebrand, MAN Energy Solutions will continue to manufacture large-bore diesel engines for ships and power stations, gas and steam turbines, and compressors, but it also plans to bring in sustainable technologies. Gut revealed plans to expand the portfolio with hybrid, storage and digital service technologies, with the goal of becoming a comprehensive service provider for the energy sector.
Most recently, the company produced the first subsea compressor station for the Norwegian energy corporation Equinor ASA. It is a “high-tech solution for natural gas exploitation around 300 metres beneath the surface on the sea bed”, according to Gut.
He added that the company would in future develop and build solutions like this in Switzerland. “Here we are a market leader – thanks to the proximity of the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich,” he said. The group works closely with the university, with the partners currently conducting a joint research project on the company premises.
