The IT company Dätwyler IT Infra, headquartered in Altdorf in the canton of Uri, is testing a construction container housing a data centre at the Rheintal Resource Center in the Austrian city of Bregenz in conjunction with the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group, a rail technology firm based in Zurich. According to a press release, the developers are keen to find out how the Q-tainer can contribute to optimizing construction sites.
The Q-tainer is a standard 20-foot container equipped with IT infrastructure and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Datwyler IT Infra has integrated 5G and WiFi functionalities in the complete system for data acquisition and analysis on construction sites, while cooling, power supply and a monitoring system to ensure the functionality of the components are also available.
The developers are aiming to gain experiences at the test site in Bregenz and, based on this, define future application scenarios. In this way, for example, the system should automatically register which paths construction vehicles primarily use in order to avoid accidents with pedestrians.
With the help of the AI, the Q-tainer should also automatically record the inventory and resources such as gravel and sand in addition to monitoring their consumption levels. “In a best-case scenario, expensive machines are only procured once and billed according to use between the companies involved, just like with car sharing”, the press release explains. According to this, digital construction site management processes can be used to automatically recognize “which person from which company is using an excavator for how long, and independently bills the relevant company for this usage time”.
