Swiss Transit Lab is a joint venture project between Trapeze Switzerland, AMoTech, the local public transport operator Verkehrsbetrieben Schaffhausen (VBSH) and the unit for regional development of the Canton of Schaffhausen. As part of the project, smart mobility solutions are being tested. A connection between Schaffhausen rail station and Rhine Falls is currently being developed.
The initial plan is to arrange an electric trolleybus from Schaffhausen rail station to Neuhausen am Rheinfall. Here, passengers switch onto another electric-powered driverless bus, which has been in the testing phase for more than a year now. When the driverless bus drops passengers off at the station in Neuhausen am Rheinfall, the elevator is automatically sent up. To this end, the bus and elevator are interconnected via an Internet of Things integration.
Swiss Transit Lab has now been awarded the Smart City Innovation Award for this project. It is handed out by the EnergieSchweiz program operated by the Swiss Federal Energy Office (BFE). In total, seven projects were nominated for the final. In addition to Swiss Transit Lab, a further three projects were awarded prizes, which shall now all also receive financial support for the submitted projects in each case.
