Zug/Küssnacht - SHL Medical is acquiring LCA Automation with its subsidiaries in Mexico and China. The supplier of automation solutions will help to strengthen the medtech firm’s efforts to expand its global footprint.

The Zug-based SHL Medical AG has acquired 100% of the shares in LCA Automation AG from Küssnacht in the canton of Schwyz, including the company’s subsidiaries in Mexico and China, as SHL Medical writes in a press release. The takeover of the Küssnacht-based company, which specializes in the automation of industrial processes, is intended to support the development of SHL Medical’s global production network. The press release made no mention of the purchase price for this acquisition.

“LCA Automation’s expertise in automation and manufacturing solutions will complement our existing capabilities and enable us to offer a more comprehensive range of services to our customers and accelerate innovation”, comments Ulrich Fässler, CEO of SHL Medical, in the press release. For Chris Rennhard, CEO of LCA Automation, the merger of the two companies brings together production process technology and mechanical engineering: “The resulting high-level factory automation technology will enable the shortest timelines to fulfill market demands, while maintaining in-house process control and quality monitoring”, he concludes.

SHL Medical AG is a global firm specializing in drug delivery systems such as auto-injectors and pen injectors. The Zug-based company intends to use this new acquisition to optimize its high-speed and large-scale production activities and to support its production facility currently under construction in Zug. In addition, the press release states that LCA Automation can strengthen the full in-house manufacturing policy pursued by SHL Medical as a key distinctive feature of the business. ce/hs
