Winner of the 2021 IoT Breakthrough Awards

The Zurich-based start-up Akenza has been named as one of the winners of the IoT Breakthrough Award 2021. The technology provider was awarded the title of “Smart Construction Solution of the Year” in the Industrial category. According to the organizers, the awards serve to “honor excellence and recognize the creativity, hard work and success of IoT companies, technologies and products”.

Among other products, the 2021 awards have recognized the excellence of the Akenza Core IoT System. This forms the basis for the functionality to manage the sensors via which the Zurich energy supplier ewz and the IT Competence Center of the City of Zurich (OIZ) implement the Long Range Wide Area Network. Both parties commissioned Akenza and Microsoft for this purpose in early 2020. In particular, the aim is to network sensors in public buildings and spaces.

“Based on the city-wide connectivity of ewz, the simple and scalable Core IoT system of Akenza and the intelligent services of the Microsoft Azure Cloud, the three companies build a scalable platform where customers can manage their sensors, receive and analyze data”, explains Microsoft Switzerland in describing the project.

Akenza was born in 2017 to deliver fast, easy and cost-effective IoT solutions. Akenza is headquartered in the financial capital of Switzerland, Zurich, from where it helps companies from all around Europe to develop their own smart IoT solutions.

Akenza Core, the company’s flagship product, is an intuitive, user-friendly, agnostic enterprise IoT system. It supports companies and cities in their efforts to establish real-time connectivity solutions.
