Manno/Saint-Sauvers - xFarm Technologies and Syngenta France have developed a geospatial AI tool. With this, French farmers should be able to identify crops more effectively and deploy pesticides in more targeted fashion.

The Ticino-based company xFarm Technologies from Manno has entered into a strategic partnership with Syngenta France, a company which belongs to the Syngenta Group in Basel, Switzerland, in the area of mapping usable agricultural areas via satellite imaging, further details of which can be found in a press release.

The Quali’Cible tool, which functions on the basis of Artificial Intelligence, is designed to enable French farms to distinguish between crops in their fields where pesticides may be used under strict conditions and what are known as non-target crops – e.g. buckwheat, chia, millet and sorghum. The decision support system (DSS) developed by the two companies is now used to monitor an area of 25 million hectares in France.

Sami Yacoubi, Head of Geospatial AI at xFarm Technologies, sees Syngenta France as a key partner for innovation in agriculture: “We are very pleased to be their partner in this project that will provide French farmers with an even better DSS tool”.

“Quali’Cible is part of a broader approach to supporting farmers in the proper application of crop protection products”, as François-Xavier Bauer, Stewardship and Sustainable Farming Lead for Syngenta France, explains in the press release. “We’re proud that Quali’Cible can benefit from the latest Artificial Intelligence technologies thanks to xFarm Technologies, and that this is made easily accessible to all French farmers”, he adds. ce/ww
