Zurich - Zalando has drawn up plans to establish a technology center at the Prime Tower in Zurich. From this base, the German online fashion retailer will seek to advance the development of a virtual changing room. The team will be built around Fision, a Zurich-based start-up recently acquired by Zalando.

Zalando has its sights set on growth in Switzerland: The German online fashion retailer is planning to establish a technology center at the Prime Tower in Zurich, further details of which can be found in an article published by “20 Minuten”. This tech hub will offer space for more than 150 employees working across two floors.

Zurich offers us a fantastic environment. Major corporations such as Google and Facebook are also based here.
Stacia Carr - Vice President of the Size and Fit department at Zalando

The team will be built around the Zurich-based start-up Fision, which was acquired last year by Zalando. The spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) develops technologies for the creation of virtual 3D models of the human body and clothing, on the basis of which employees at Zalando’s tech hub in Zurich will work to develop a virtual changing room. The aim here is to help customers select the right size of garment.

“Zurich offers us a fantastic environment. Major corporations such as Google and Facebook are also based here. And the proximity to renowned tech universities gives us access to a large pool of talent”, comments Stacia Carr, Vice President of the Size and Fit department at Zalando in an interview with “20 Minuten”. Moreover, Zalando also values the proximity to ETH and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), which both offer “a huge talent pool”. However, the main reason for establishing the tech hub in Zurich was the takeover of Fision.

According to Carr, various positions are to be advertised for the new Zurich location in the first quarter of 2022. The main focus is on attracting talents in the fields of software engineering, product development and design as well as applied sciences.
