Schaffhausen – Acronis is celebrating its 15th anniversary with plans to expand its headquarters in Schaffhausen. The company is also considering Switzerland as the location for its new university and technopark.

Acronis was founded in Singapore in 2003 and five years later established itself in Switzerland. Over the last 15 years, it has become a market leader in the field of cyber security, working with companies including Google and Microsoft. It is now celebrating its 15th anniversary at its headquarters in Schaffhausen, with a slew of development plans in the pipeline.

Chiefly, the company is expanding its premises in Schaffhausen in a move that will create new jobs in Switzerland’s Upper Rhine region. Cornelia Stamm Hurter, Schaffhausen government councillor, referred in a statement to Acronis’ confidence in the location.

She said: “I am delighted that Acronis has placed such trust in Schaffhausen over the last ten years, and I wish the company much success in the future.”

Acronis is also considering Switzerland as the location for Singularity City – a project to establish a privately financed university and technology park, with Acronis set to invest 10 million euros over the next 10 years.

According to the plans, the university would focus on industry-driven research and software development in artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing and blockchain technology, while the technopark would provide space for established companies, startups and research and development.

“We are delighted that Acronis plans to further expand its presence in Schaffhausen and is supporting our efforts to place the canton at the interface between research and industry in terms of applications for new technologies of the future with its new Singularity City project,” commented Christoph Schärrer, Official Chief Representative Economic Promotion for the canton of Schaffhausen.
