Christian Zehnder has been named as the new CEO of Airport Mollis AG with effect from September 1, 2022. According to a press release issued by the airport operator, the Board of Directors has opted to appoint the current Head of Location Promotion for the canton of Glarus, a story also covered by the regional newspaper “Südostschweiz”. Zehnder has been in this role since 2012.
“We have now laid the foundations for the future for Mollis Airport and, in Christian Zehnder, we have successfully secured our preferred management candidate”, comments Thomas Walt, President of the Board of Directors, before adding: “He brings the right skills that we need and, thanks to his experience and networking, also guarantees effective cooperation with the authorities and various other stakeholder groups”.
With this choice, the strategy of the canton of Glarus centered on transforming the airfield into a focal point for development has now been secured. Zehnder’s remit will also extend to bringing new aviation companies to the airport.
Since the end of December last year, the municipality of Glarus Nord has been entered in the land register as the owner of the airfield site. As such, the repurposing of the former military airfield into a civilian airport has been completed. Airport Mollis AG consequently took over operational responsibilities for the airport.
