Cytosurge, a biotechnology company based in Opfikon in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland, and Lexogen, the Vienna-based specialists for RNA sequencing, have struck an agreement focused on the sequencing of live cells (Live-seq). To this end, the two companies will use the semi-automatic FluidFM OMNIUM platform developed by Cytosurge and the single-cell RNA sequencing platform LUTHOR from Lexogen, further details of which can be found in a press release. The Live-seq technology was developed at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), as the press release explains further.
The aim here is to synergistically offer an optimal workflow that allows researchers to genetically sequence live cells without compromising the viability of the cells. In this way, changes in gene expression in the cells could be observed and catalogued over time. Such an approach could bring about fresh insights in the field of cell biology and also lead to new therapeutic developments, the press release states.
“Partnering with Lexogen is a crucial step in advancing our mission of providing precise single-cell analysis”, comments Pascal Behr, CEO von Cytosurge, in the press release. “The combination of our FluidFM technology and Lexogen’s ultra-sensitive library prep kit allows us to deliver a comprehensive, end-to-end solution for Live-seq, opening new avenues in transcriptomics research”, he adds. Filippo Passardi, Product Manager at Lexogen, is convinced that this partnership will open up new possibilities with regard to tracking “how individual cells change over time”. He explains further that this would be of particular interest in fields such as cancer research, where subtle changes in cell populations can have major implications. ce/ww
