Winterthur – The electromobility firm Designwerk has opened new production facilities in Winterthur. Electric trucks and rapid charging devices are to be manufactured at this site. This development comes on the back of a restructuring of the company.

As part of a flagship project co-financed by the Swiss Office of Energy, Designwerk has developed a truck powered by electricity. Responsibility for the production of this truck was transferred in 2017 to the subsidiary Futuricum AG. Now, Futuricum AG has been renamed Designwerk Products AG and will assume responsibility not only for manufacturing electric trucks, but also all proprietary Designwerk products. As the parent company, Designwerk will remain contract developer.

As revealed in a press release, the nascent Designwerk Products AG has now opened a site in Wülflingerstrasse, Winterthur. Here, serial production of the electric trucks will be put into operation. Moreover, rapid charging devices, modular cell systems and ground power supply devices for airplanes will all be manufactured at this production site. The former Peter-Areal, which was traditionally involved in the construction of vehicles, will provide the requisite infrastructure.

Designwerk Products AG is also seeking to increase its workforce. At the start of 2019, the company – at that point still known as Futuricum – expanded into the German market.
