Schaffhausen/Stockholm - EQT has agreed a deal to acquire a majority stake in Acronis. With Europe’s largest investment group as majority shareholder, the company, a cybersecurity specialist based in the Greater Zurich Area, will set its sights on achieving further growth. As of now, Acronis protects 750,000 companies in 150 countries.

Ezequiel Steiner, CEO of Acronis, has announced that EQT has agreed a deal to acquire a majority stake in his company. The founders, management team and existing investors will “remain significant minority shareholders”, further details of which can be found in the press release. The transaction is expected to be finalized in the first or second quarter of 2025, subject to the customary regulatory approvals.

According to information from Acronis itself, the Schaffhausen-based company, which specializes in data protection, cyber security and the creation of secure IT infrastructures, supports more than 20,000 service providers and protects more than 750,000 companies in 150 countries. Acronis, which offers its products in 26 languages, also states that it maintains a distinct focus on customer support and training.

EQT is the largest European private equity company. The investment group, which primarily operates in Northern Europe and Asia, is headquartered in Stockholm and has been listed on the stock exchange since 2019.

According to the press release, the partnership between the two companies is based upon shared goals for Acronis. “We are thrilled that EQT shares our vision for growth”, Steiner comments, adding that: “With EQT as strong partner, we will continue Acronis’ expansion strategy”. ce/mm
