Biberist SO – Startup company hystrix medical is building a digital marketplace for medicinal products, implants and services in Switzerland. The aim is to speed up procurement processes and lower costs.

A digital marketplace for medtech companies will launch in Switzerland this autumn, announced a statement. Developed by hystrix medical AG, it aims to optimize processes at the interface of procurement and sales between hospitals, clinics, homes and medical practices.

Accelerated and transparent procurement and sales processes will be a result of the platform, which will also contribute to curbing the cost explosion in the Swiss healthcare system. According to model calculations, procurement and sales process costs in the healthcare sector could be reduced by up to 77 per cent thanks to digitization – and the hystrix medical marketplace will play a key role in these realizations.

Philippe Linder, Head of Purchasing and Logistics at the Lucerne Cantonal Hospital, is also convinced that the first Swiss online medtech marketplace will have a positive effect. He commented: "Digitization permeates our daily lives in all facets. As a future-oriented hospital, we want to integrate new emerging ways of working in our everyday work. The hystrix medical marketplace will help us as a key element to generate within a few clicks market transparency in procurement.”

For medtech companies, the platform enables “a personnel-neutral sales channel combined with positioning at eye level in the competitive landscape”, according to hystrix medical.

In June, the startup successfully closed a financing round, with shareholders including Zühlke Venures, co-founder and CEO of Digitec Galaxus Florian Teuteberg, chairman of the board of Alluvia Holding Thomas Hofstetter, and Hans-Peter Güllich and Patrick Wegmann, founders of the Thomson Reuters-acquired Avanon AG.

Switzerland is in great need of a digital marketplace, according to hystrix medical, due to the number of medtech companies in the country. The  company later plans to expand into Germany, Austria and Great Britain.
