Winterthur – Following the Building Department of the Canton of Zurich’s announcement of the project competition winner, important progress has been made with the new campus for the ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences’ School of Engineering.

The competition began with the idea of building the School of Engineering belonging to the ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences a campus on the Technikumstrasse site in Winterthur.

Now, the winner for the first of the four planned stages has been announced as the working consortium of Zurich companies Graber Pulver Architekten and Takt Baumanagement, which beat 14 competitors with its entry “BELO HORIZONTE”, according to the Canton of Zurich.

This first phase concerns the construction of two new laboratory buildings – one with a large canteen – and an outdoor area. While the new builds will serve to meet increasing student numbers, the park will add value for Winterthur’s inhabitants. The jury described the first phase as “an excellent first building block for the further development of the whole campus”.

In further project development plans, the state council and the cantonal council are expected to submit a support-eligible building project proposal by 2021. The first phase of construction could then be completed by 2026.
