Zurich - Oracle wants to open a new data center in Zurich in August, which will offer companies and institutions cloud infrastructure and database services. Oracle uses artificial intelligence and machine learning in its service offerings.

According to a press release, Oracle wants to open a new data center in Zurich in August. It will support companies and institutions with managing their mission-critical corporate data. Customers are to be offered a range of new technologies, including AI-based applications, solutions for more security thanks to integrated machine learning, automated data analysis and the Oracle Autonomous Database, which encrypts data autonomously or creates back-ups.

According to the press release, companies such as Schweizerische Post, Chopard, Accenture or the research institute CERN will be using the new service from Oracle. The new Oracle data center will enable Accenture “to support regional customers with implementation of the Oracle Autonomous Database as a service even more efficiently, enabling them to utilize their potential to increase their own business value”, says Julian Dontcheff, Managing Director and Global Oracle Technology Lead at Accenture.

Only last year Oracle opened its Smart Innovation Center in the Prime Tower, Zurich. Many graduates and students from the two Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Zurich and Lausanne work at Oracle's largest research institute. They are working meticulously on new technologies in areas such as machine learning, artificial intelligence or blockchain. The number of employees has doubled this year.

Carmen Walker Späh, President of the Government Council of the Canton of Zurich and Head of the Department for Economic Affairs, is quoted as saying that the canton of Zurich benefits from the “close collaboration between some of the world's top universities such as the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich,  the University of Zurich, the technical colleges, the Switzerland Innovation Park Zurich and innovation centers such as the Oracle Smart Innovation Center“. She stresses that “the continuous cooperation between the public and private sector is instrumental to the success of the canton of Zurich as an international hotspot for ICT”.
