Zurich/Perth - The rail services provider Rail Systems Australia has decided on Nexxiot as a partner for the digitization of railway freight transport. Nexxiot’s combination of sensors for the Internet of Things, software, and services based on artificial intelligence decreases breakdowns and downtime.

Nexxiot and Rail Systems Australia (RSA) have agreed on a partnership, which will see the Australian service provider offering Nexxiot’s technology to its clients in mining, manufacturing, and agriculture. This technology aims to make railway freight transport more robust, reliable, and efficient.

RSA’s CEO Tom Warner commented in two identical press releases from the companies: “We have been looking for the right partner for rail asset digitalization for some time. We believe Nexxiot offers the most trusted, interoperable, and future-proof technology to reduce risk for rail operators and shippers. It helps them to control costs and enable safer operations.”

It is also particularly important to maximize the fleet’s availability in light of the particularly challenging climactic conditions in the country’s central regions, which are often almost deserted. This means that railway providers are anxious to reduce bottlenecks and breakdowns or even derailments, thereby decreasing downtime and loss of customers.

The technology developed by the spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich enables full transparency. For example: vector sensors monitor the status of hatches, doors, and handbrakes; the temperature sensor reports the temperature of sensitive goods such as petrochemicals in tank cars; and the load tracker checks the carriage loading status and detects loading processes.

Nexxiot has already kitted out the fleets of major railway operators in Europe and the USA. CEO Stefan Kalmund explains: “It is our goal to remove uncertainty from the global supply chain.” ce/mm
