Zurich – Space industry company RUAG Space and the startup SWISSto12 have entered into a partnership to jointly develop active antenna solutions in an effort to improve telecommunication satellites.

Zurich-based RUAG Space and SWISSto12, a startup in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, announced their partnership at the World Satellite Business Week in Paris last week.

According to a press release, the aim of the partnership is to jointly develop and produce active phased array antenna products. RUAG Space brings its expertise in active microwave modules to the partnership, while SWISSto12 will produce the antenna systems with its patented 3D printing technology, which reduces costs and increases production times.

According to RUAG Space, active phased array antennas are a critical element of advanced telecommunication satellites. Their increased performance is based on electronically steered multiple beams, a functionality that is improved with active phased array antennas.

RUAG Space is a division of the international technology group RUAG, which provides and maintains the technical systems of the Swiss Armed Forces. RUAG Space is headquartered in Zurich.

SWISSto12 is a spinoff of the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and is located in Écublens in the canton of Vaud.
