Zug - SHL Medical is developing an autoinjector for MoonLake Immunotherapeutics. This is intended to secure the clinical and potential commercial supply of MoonLake’s drug candidate sonelokimab, a nanobody technology for the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis.

The two Zug-based firms SHL Medical and MoonLake Immunotherapeutics have agreed a partnership. As part of this collaboration, SHL Medical, which specializes in the development of innovative drug administration solutions, will develop a specific autoinjection device for MoonLake, further details of which can be found in a press release. The autoinjector is intended to support the clinical and potential commercial supply of MoonLake’s drug candidate sonelokimab.

With its novel nanobody technology, the biopharmaceutical firm MoonLake is currently in the clinical development phase for several indications including moderate to severe plaque-type psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa, a severely debilitating chronic skin condition that can result in irreversible tissue destruction. The nanobody technology developed by MoonLake is designed to target inflammation sites more directly and penetrate inflamed tissues and joints that are usually difficult to reach.

In order to meet the particular requirements of its new partner, SHL Medical will build on its Molly autoinjector. Up to now, a total of 17 combination products that use the Molly autoinjector technology have been approved in at least 69 countries.

“Working with MoonLake while sonelokimab is in development allows us to carry out strategies that best complement MoonLake’s clinical and commercial needs”, comments Ulrich Fässler, SHL Medical Chief Executive Officer, in the press release. According to Oliver Daltrop, Chief Technical Officer of MoonLake, the company is now in the process of planning a Phase III study and preparing for commercial readiness. If authorized, the expertise of SHL will “greatly” support the market launch. ce/mm
