Invero AG has invested in smartflyer. As the aircraft manufacturer based in Selzach in the canton of Solothurn has now announced, the investment firm from Altdorf in the canton of Uri is therefore keen to support the long-term economic development of the aircraft manufacturer and the certification of the smartflyer aircraft. According to a press release, the plan is to secure certification by 2028. Up to now, the project centered on the development of a four-seater electric airplane with range extender has received federal funding from the special aviation financing platform (SFLV). In turn, this funding is obtained from the fuel tax and is intended, among other aspects, to improve environmental protection.
According to the information, the investment company Invero focuses on real estate and sustainable investments that offer direct and measurable positive social and ecological impacts. “It was not only the experienced team behind the smartflyer that impressed me”, comments Gerhard Prammer, co-founder and partner at Invero, in the press release. “Smartflyer clearly fills a gap in the aviation sector for distances up to 800 kilometers, and it does so in a sustainable manner”, he adds.
The smartflyer is an electric aircraft for four people. The range extender comes in the form of a gasoline engine that supplies extra power via a generator exclusively to the batteries. As such, it does not directly power the propellers. The “modular energy storage system can be converted from a hybrid to a pure battery drive in just a few simple steps”, according to smartflyer Managing Director Rolf Stuber.
At present, the smartflyer Prototype 2 is being put together in Selzach, with its maiden flight scheduled to take place at the end of 2023 at the military airport in Payerne in the canton of Vaud. However, as Stuber explained in an interview with the newspaper “Grenchner Tagblatt”, he actually hopes that production activities for further smartflyer aircraft will return to the original company headquarters in Grenchen and that they will be flown in to land at Grenchen Airport in future. mm
