For its ten-year anniversary, the TOP 100 Swiss Startups has published a book that celebrates the success story of Swiss startups. It honors the 438 startups that have been selected for the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Awards organized by the startup accelerator program Venturelab in Schlieren since 2011. The figures leave no doubt about the success of its work: 11,100 jobs have been created by these startups. In this period, 6.1 billion francs has been received from Swiss and foreign investors, as was reported in a press release. Some of these startups have since been taken over by large international corporates. So far, 56 merger and acquisition transactions have included prominent names such as Apple, Boehringer Ingelheim, Intel, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Qualcomm and Sony. Three of the TOP 100 startups went public with an initial public offering.
On 100 pages, the anniversary book “World shapers of tomorrow: Startups building our future” features 10 inspiring startups stories to show the facts and figures about the startup ecosystem in Switzerland. “It is said that it takes ten years to become a good investor, so this is an excellent time to look back at what the TOP 100 has become after a decade,” explained Jordi Montserrat, co-initiator of the TOP 100 Ranking. “The TOP 100 Swiss Startup Award started as a one-evening award ceremony in 2011 with the ambition to promote the strengths and diversity of Swiss startups when they did not enjoy the visibility and recognition they deserve.” Today, the TOP 100 has grown into a true benchmark platform that shines the spotlight on the most promising startups of Switzerland.
Since 2004, Venturelab has been designing and operating flagship startup programs to support business founders from idea to successful startup. These include startup programs in Switzerland such as Venture Kick, Venture Leaders, the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Award and Innosuisse Start-up-Trainings to support the best entrepreneurial talent.
