Schlieren ZH – VirtaMed has been awarded the Export Award by Switzerland Global Enterprise. The surgical training simulators of the company from the Greater Zurich Area are already in use in 50 countries. The jury was impressed by its smart export strategy.

The official Swiss foreign trade promotion agency Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE) nominated three finalists for its annual Export Award. Of these, VirtaMed has now been crowned the winner, as was reported in a press release from S-GE. VirtaMed develops surgical training simulators that allow endoscopic procedures to be performed in a realistic manner, be it for orthopedics, urology or gynecology.

Employing 100 staff from 20 countries, VirtaMed is based in the Innovations- und Jungunternehmerzentrum (IJZ; innovation and startup center) in Schlieren. The company has additionally established subsidiaries in China and the USA. Almost 1,000 VirtaMed simulators are reportedly already being used in 50 countries.

The company supplies customers both in emerging and mature markets via its well thought-out export strategy,” said Ruth Metzler-Arnold, Chairperson of S-GE, at the award ceremony. “In addition, VirtaMed AG’s success story shows how an international sales strategy can contribute to the rapid growth of a company in Switzerland.” S-GE also released a video celebrating the success of VirtaMed so far.

Alongside VirtaMed, the finalists were Andermatt Biocontrol AG from Grossdietwil LU and CAMAG from Muttenz BL.
