The Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) is bringing its food research activities together under one roof. To this end, the university, whose main site is in Winterthur, has established a new laboratory building at Campus Reidbach in Wädenswil in the canton of Zurich, further details of which can be found in a press release jointly issued by the Building Department and Department of Education of the canton of Zurich. Developed by Tuwag Immobilien AG, the new lab was inaugurated on August 23 during a ceremony attended by Martin Neukom, Head of the Building Department, Silvia Steiner, Head of the Department of Education, Jean-Marc Piveteau, President of ZHAW, and Heiner Treichler, CEO of Tuwag Immobilien AG.
The new building will primarily house the Institute of Food and Beverage Innovation (ILGI) at ZHAW, which will in future allow employees and students alike to research the entire food value chain under one roof. In this context, the aim is not only to research and teach in Wädenswil, “but also to produce, analyze, taste and package”, the press release states.
Elisabeth Weber-Hauser (1842-1906), a Wädenswil businesswoman who was active in the beer industry, gives her name to the new laboratory building. The Canton of Zurich has signed a 20-year lease with Tuwag Immobilien AG for use of the premises. Moreover, the canton has invested around 48 million Swiss francs in tenant fit-out and equipment for the new lab building. ce/hs
