Kloten ZH – Zurich Airport has won the Skytrax Award in the category of World’s Best Airport Security. The airport came out on top owing to short waiting times and the competence of its security personnel.

The UK-based consultancy company Skytrax, which specialises in the aviation sector, interviews passengers from across the world regarding their experiences at airports. Using their responses, Skytrax awards prizes to airports and airlines. The prize in the category of World’s Best Airport Security was won by Zurich Airport this year. After 2016, this was the second occasion on which Zurich Airport has won this award.

Zurich Airport came out on top primarily on account of short waiting times at security, its security standards as well as the competence of its security personnel, according to a press release. The airport’s security controls are handled by the Canton of Zurich police force on behalf of Flughafen Zürich AG. According to the information available, a total of 12 million passengers passed through the security controls at Zurich Airport in 2018.

Narita International Airport and Haneda International Airport, both of which serve Tokyo, follow Zurich Airport in the rankings. The award ceremony took place in London on Wednesday.
