The Batteriewerk brand, which was established in 2018, grew out of a joint venture in which Designwerk had initially held a minority stake. According to a Designwerk statement, it is now acquiring the entire brand.
Batteriewerk develops, builds and integrates battery systems for traction applications, and its modular systems are aimed primarily at small and medium-sized vehicle manufacturers. It electrifies a range of vehicles, including electric trucks, electric buses, municipal vehicles, specialized vehicles, railway vehicles and boats, as well as mobile energy storage systems and construction machinery.
In the future, Batteriewerk will manufacture its systems at Designwerk Products’ production site in Winterthur. Its employees have already been taken over by Designwerk, and capacity will be expanded as of 2020.
Founded in 2007, Designwerk is a driving force in the field of electric mobility. It manufactures electric vehicles such as the Futuricum all-electric waste collection truck, which entered into series production this past winter. And in May, the company unveiled its all-electric, 40-ton semi-trailer tractor, which boasts a range of 380 kilometers. Prior to that, it had opened the new production site in Winterthur.
