Computers and humans can collaborate to advance scientific research, writes the USI in a statement. An important area for collaboration, according to the USI, is the analysis of data from biological samples. While computers can analyze large amounts of data, humans have precious knowledge gleaned from their life experience, highlights the university.
A research group from the USI and the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB), which has close ties to the USI, has now developed a new method to analyze complex data founded on this collaboration. Based on artificial intelligence, the method “has been proven to be better than current existing methods”, writes the USI.
The new method can analyze images of immune cells, electrocardiographic records of patients with different types of arrhythmia, and microarray gene expression from patients suffering different types of leukaemia. According to the USI, this demonstrate that this method can be used in several fields such as in immunology, cardiology, and oncology.
