“As of today, the world is another chocolate-themed attraction richer”, writes Lindt & Sprüngli in the introduction to a press release regarding the opening of the Lindt Home of Chocolate on Thursday. According to brand ambassador Roger Federer, this “unique chocolate experience” should attract 350,000 chocoholics from Switzerland and abroad to Kilchberg in the canton of Zurich each year. Visitors will find an interactive museum, open-view production lines and a chocolate fountain standing over nine meters tall waiting for them at the Lindt Home of Chocolate.
The project realized by the Lindt Chocolate Competence Foundation is, however, designed to be far more than just an attraction. “The Lindt Home of Chocolate will play an important role in safeguarding Switzerland’s position as a chocolate country in the long-term, as well as contributing to the transfer of knowledge across the entire industry”, comments Ernst Tanner, President of the Lindt Chocolate Competence Foundation, in the press release. Two centuries after the origins of chocolate production in Switzerland, the foundation is seeking to promote innovation and lend the chocolate industry fresh impetus. To this end, the Pilot Plant research facility was put into operation at the beginning of this year at the Lindt Home of Chocolate.
Ueli Maurer, Member of the Federal Council, the Swiss federal government, was also present at the grand opening of the chocolate competence center. In his speech to mark the opening of the Lindt Home of Chocolate, Maurer stated: “Chocolate is a part of our national identity and the chocolate industry is an extremely important economic sector of our country. For this reason, fostering local chocolate expertise is synonymous with boosting Switzerland as an economic location”.
