The internationally active technology company INTEGRA Biosciences has announced major expansion plans for its headquarters in Zizers. The existing building in the Tardisland industrial area will be expanded into a large campus spanning 30,000 square meters. The company is investing over 100 million Swiss francs in this. A total of 400 people will be able to work at the new headquarters. This means that 250 new positions will be created.
With this expansion, INTEGRA Biosciences now plans to manufacture not just in the USA as it has done previously but also in Switzerland. A production hall has been designed for this with state-of-the-art injection molding systems manufacturing around 40 different types of pipette tips in a clean room environment. A fully automated, high-bay warehouse will be available for finished products and consumables. The products will be sent from there to Switzerland and the rest of the world.
The new campus is also designed to be a center of innovation. The aim is to create a “creative village” from open-plan and enclosed work areas with offices and public spaces. Additionally, the company plans to build its own scientific testing laboratory and a restaurant.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the new campus took place on November 1. The first development phase of the new building will be opened in 2023, with the second following in 2028. INTEGRA Biosciences is placing importance on sustainability during construction. For example, a photovoltaic system and a heat pump will be installed.
Companies have been settling in the Tardisland area in Zizers for twenty years. To date, they have created a total of 1,700 jobs. Marc Handlery, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tardisland site, welcomes INTEGRA Biosciences’ expansion plans, stating in the press release: “It’s great that we can support INTEGRA – a company with a strong international presence – in its continued growth here at Tardisland.”
INTEGRA Biosciences specializes in instruments and consumables for laboratories. In 2020, the company increased its sales by 73 percent. Besides Switzerland and the USA, INTEGRA Biosciences also operates in Canada, China, Japan, the UK, France, Germany, and Austria.
