Sphaira Innovation, based in Baar in the canton of Zug, has acquired Playmob, a London-based specialist in video gaming market insights, according to a press release. The acquisition for an undisclosed sum brings Playmob together with Sphaira Innovation Ltd’s PlanetPlay. PlanetPlay is the first marketplace for climate-conscious games. Sphaira Innovation AG was founded in Baar in November 2021 as a not-for-profit company supporting positive change in the world. Sphaira Innovation Ltd in London is a fully owned subsidiary of Sphaira Innovation AG.
The new alliance has been forged as Sphaira launches its PlanetPlay “Make Green Tuesday Moves” (MGTM) campaign. PlanetPlay has joined forces with a number of leading gaming studios and will add one or more new “green” gaming items to the movement on the first Tuesday of every month from June 4, to make a real impact in the fight against climate change.
Playmob CEO Jude Ower becomes Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of Sphaira in London. According to the press release, Ower worked closely with PlanetPlay to launch the Make Green Tuesday Moves campaign. Together with Rhea Loucas, CEO of PlanetPlay, Ower recently led a delegation from the gaming industry to the UN Development Programme (UNDP)’s Climate Promise event at the UN headquarters in New York. ce/gba
