The software firm Klepsydra AI from Volketswil in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland, has presented a further development of its on-board software, which is supported by Artificial Intelligence (AI). It offers real-time processing for symmetric multiprocessor activities and can be integrated in robust systems such as those used for deep-space missions, as the company writes in a press release. The new RTEMS 6 SMP technology facilitates concurrent data access with enhanced synchronization, improved task processing, efficient interrupt management and high data security for storage.
The new on-board AI has been validated using various models of deep neural networks (DNN) and computer architectures, according to the press release. For example, the software can be ported to the GR740 microprocessors developed by the Swedish manufacturer Frontgrade Gaisler, which are suitable for use in space missions. Tests in collaboration with ESA have shown that porting the RTEMS 6 SMP to ZedBoards results in a 10 percent improvement in benchmark processing than was the case for previously used systems.
Artificial Intelligence algorithms can enhance the versatility of these microprocessors and enable a wide range of AI-driven tasks in space, including remote sensing, Earth observation, data analysis, autonomous decision-making and the detection of anomalies. ce/ww
