Kopter and Korea Aerospace Industries have signed a memorandum of understanding that will see them cooperate closely around the local assembly, production, customization and sales of Kopter’s SH09 helicopter in South Korea. Korea Aerospace Industries will add the single-engine helicopter to its rotary-wing production portfolio.
According to a press release, the cooperation could lead to helicopter sales to other Asian countries.
The SH09 can seat up to eight passengers. It has a maximum take-off weight of 2,850 kilograms and a maximum operational weight with external load of 3,000 kilograms. With a fast cruise speed of 260 kilometers per hour, the helicopter is one of the fastest in its category.
Kopter intends to continue main production of the SH09 in Mollis in the canton of Glarus, where it will build up to 50 helicopters per year. The company also plans to build a new production building at the Mollis airfield and quadruple its workforce to 400 people by 2021.
