New hospital rankings have evaluated Schulthess Klinik in Zurich as the best orthopedic hospital in Europe. The Zurich-based hospital was ranked in fourth place globally and claimed top spot in Europe, further details of which can be found in a press release. Each year, the weekly US magazine “Newsweek” and the German polling institute Statista evaluate the best hospitals in the world, whereby the 300 best hospitals worldwide are selected from twelve medical disciplines. When it comes to orthopedic hospitals, three clinics from the USA occupy the top spots, including the New York-based Hospital for Special Surgery in first place.
The rankings are based on a global online survey of doctors and specialists from the healthcare sector, an analysis of quality certificates and a survey of patient satisfaction and post-surgery quality of life.
The Schulthess Klinik was founded in 1883 and has been sponsored by the Wilhelm Schulthess Foundation since 1935. It employs a total of 1,100 staff. According to the press release, its focus areas are surgical orthopedics, spinal neurosurgery, neurology, rheumatology, manual medicine and sports medicine. The Schulthess Klinik is a Swiss Olympic Medical Center and is open to patients with both general and additional insurance. The clinic performs around 10,000 operations and handles more than 133,000 outpatient consultations per year. ce/gba
