Zurich/Kyoto – Japanese pharma supplier YMC is acquiring ChromaCon AG. The spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) develops and commercializes equipment for laboratories and industry. The existing employees will be retained.

YMC Co., Ltd. from Kyoto is taking over the Zurich-based company ChromaCon AG, it was reported in a press release. The ETH spin-off develops and commercializes laboratory and industrial equipment, predominantly for the biopharmaceutical industry. The equipment is made with innovative processes for purifying high-quality materials using chromatography. The patented processes enable the separation of impurities within a continuous process, attaining significantly higher yields while using far less column materials and buffer solutions. According to YMC, the company’s solutions will reduce operational costs and significantly increase productivity in molecule manufacturing.

YMC provides a variety of products for applications in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. YMC and ChromaCon have previously been cooperating in Japan and Asia for the marketing and sale of products. In addition, ChromaCon has licensed proprietary technologies to YMC Process Technologies, a company acquired by YMC in December.

The press release reports that all employees at ChromaCon will be retained by YMC on completion of the transaction.
