Shenzhen/Zurich – The Greater Zurich Area now enjoys direct service to Shenzhen. Hainan Airlines is offering two non-stop flights per week from China’s southern economic hub to Switzerland’s economic powerhouse.

The economic hubs of Switzerland and southern China are now connected by a non-stop flight for the first time ever. Hainan Airlines will operate two round-trip flights per week between Zurich and Shenzhen. The inaugural flight of the southern Chinese airline’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner landed in Zurich on Monday, and the second flight will return to Shenzhen on Friday.

According to a Hainan Airlines spokesperson, the non-stop Shenzhen-Zurich service will promote “the development of the economies, cultures and tourism of the two countries, while offering more opportunities for collaboration between companies in European countries and in China”.

The new service is the airline’s seventh intercontinental flight originating from Shenzhen. In Europe, the airline also flies to Brussels and Madrid, with plans for a route to Vienna too.

Hainan Airlines belongs to the HNA Group, which owns Gategroup, SR Technics and Swissport in Switzerland. HNA Group also owns a stake in the Basel-based duty-free retailer Dufry.
