Schlieren ZH – Startup promotion organization venturelab has selected 10 startups that will travel to Boston as the Swiss National Startup Team. There, they will showcase themselves to industry heavyweights and investors from the life sciences scene.

The 10 startups will be in Boston between 27 May and 3 June. According to a venturelab statement, the participants will have the opportunity to “present Switzerland as an innovation hotspot for life sciences” in the world’s most important life sciences hub.

A number of the startups come from the Greater Zurich Area. CDR Life AG from Schlieren is developing antibody fragments; CUTISS AG from Zurich is working on a treatment for scarred skin; Elthera AG from Zug is developing a new antibody; and IDUN Technologies from Zurich manufactures electrodes for biopotential monitoring.

A few of the participants are located in the vicinity of the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). These include Artiria, which is working on a new device to improve the results of stroke-related medical interventions; Aspivix, which is developing a new generation of disposable forceps for use in gynaecology; and Nagi Bioscience, which aims to improve drug developments with its new technology.

Other participants are Geneva’s EBA-Med, which wants to treat cardiac arrhythmias using proton beams; the pharmaceutical company HAYA Therapeutics; and Swiss Motion Technologies from Renens in the canton of Vaud, which works in prosthesis development.

The trip is supported by the EPFL and other institutions: the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, the University of Zurich (UZH), Kellerhals Carrard, digitalswitzerland, the cantons of Vaud and Zurich, the Wyss Foundation, EY entrepreneur of the year, and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI).

This will be the 17th venturelab trip to Boston. The 10 participants will showcase themselves in a pitch competition at the EPFL on 2 May in the lead-up to their trip.
