Benchling, the leading cloud-based platform for life sciences R&D, with global headquarters (HQ) in San Francisco (USA) has chosen the Circle Business Center at Zurich Airport as its EMEA HQ. Since launching in 2012, more than 300,000 scientists and 1,000 R&D organizations around the globe have adopted Benchling’s cloud platform to manage massively complex experimental datasets and optimize R&D processes.
Today, Benchling has over 500 customers including Sanofi, Selexis, RedBiotech, and Cutiss. While biopharmaceuticals lead as Benchling’s largest and fastest-growing customer sector, over 25 percent of their customers are working on agriculture, food, materials, chemicals, and consumer packaged goods.
EMEA Expansion Drives Customer Growth
In 2021, Benchling plans to double the number of its employees worldwide from 300 at the start of the year to over 600. Locating its EMEA headquarters in the Greater Zurich Area enables Benchling to foster collaboration with leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies as the area is one of the most innovative pharmaceutical and biotech ecosystems in the world.
Greater Zurich scores points for its innovation structure
According to Nishant Neel, Benchling’s Regional Services Lead for Europe, “The Greater Zurich Area is particularly ideal due to parallels in the innovation structure between Greater Zurich and the San Francisco Bay Area, where Benchling's headquarters are located.” Like San Francisco, Greater Zurich is renowned for attracting highly qualified and skilled talent. “We were also attracted to its proximity to world-renowned research institutes such as the University of Zurich and the University Hospital Zurich, which also conducts research at the Circle,” commented Neel. Benchling is currently recruiting for sales, marketing, customer support, and service delivery roles at its EMEA headquarters.
