The telecommunications provider Sunrise, based in Opfikon in the canton of Zurich, is seeking to support industrial firms in their future maintenance activities. The aim is for companies to be able to carry out important maintenance work independently without having to wait for an expert to arrive. In turn, this is intended to reduce costly periods of machine downtime.
Together with the Italian start-up OverIT, Sunrise is launching what is known as a 5G AR field service kit. This is a maintenance solution on the basis of 5G and Augmented Reality (AR). This firstly allows experts to offer remote support for maintenance tasks, while employees can additionally be trained in real settings and practice scenarios in a safe environment using AR goggles.
The new solution can be tested at the 5G Joint Innovation Center (JIC) operated by Sunrise UPC and Huawei in Zurich. The center was established with the aim of testing out new solutions in the field of 5G.
