Hemotune, a MedTech firm based in Schlieren in the canton of Zurich, has been awarded the Europe Technology Innovation Leadership Award 2022 for its development in the area of blood purification. The award from Frost & Sullivan, a US business consulting and market research firm, was presented in recognition of the company’s HemoSystem, further details of which can be found in a press release. Frost & Sullivan awards this prize on an annual basis to the company responsible for developing a product with innovative features and functionality that is gaining rapid acceptance in the market, the press release explains.
Hemotune has developed a blood purification platform in the form of the HemoSystem that is based on a nanostructured magnetic absorber material. A device similar to a dialysis machine makes it possible to remove various disease-related substances directly from the patient's blood at the same time. The first therapy was designed to treat septic shock.
“Hemotune refined its holistic approach to blood purification based on leading-edge nanotechnology, continuously evolving its revolutionary technology to bridge industry gaps. Using specific antibody binders, its unique purification technology based on magnetic beads removes large biomolecule targets, such as bacterial toxins, antibodies and cytokinesis”, comments Ashish Kaul, Best Practices Research Industry Analyst at Frost & Sullivan, in the press release. Magnetic beads are magnetic particles that can bind certain substances in the blood, which are then removed with a magnetic filter.
Founded in 2017 as a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH), Hemotune is headquartered at the Bio-Technopark Schlieren-Zurich.
