Mammut has signed a multiyear agreement with the Zurich-based startup Climeworks. The agreement entails Climeworks filtering CO2 from the air for the outdoor clothing supplier based in the canton of Aargau. According to a press release, the process is performed at Climeworks’ plant in Iceland. The CO2 is stored under the Earth’s surface over the long term in the form of solid carbonates. Mammut has committed to a quantity of 200 tonnes of carbon dioxide removal (CDR).
The partnership will bring Mammut one step closer to its target of net zero by 2050. According to information provided by Mammut, products for which CO2 emissions have already been balanced will be marked with a “carbon removed” label. The first such collection is anticipated to be launched in Spring 2023.
Adrian Huber, Head of Corporate Responsibility, comments in the press release: “At Mammut, our climate strategy is focused on reducing our CO2 emissions along our value chain.” To do so, the company also relies on renewable energies, supply chain changes, sustainable materials, and circular business models. ssp
