ETH tops the current rankings of the best universities in Europe drawn up by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) with a perfect score of 100 out of 100 possible points. “QS is thrilled to celebrate ETH Zurich as Europe’s top university, driven by progressive ESG strategies, student exchanges, and impactful research”, as the introduction to the 25th edition of the QS World University Rankings: Europe states.
In total, the universities are evaluated on the basis of 12 categories. ETH received full marks for academic reputation and the high ratio of international faculty staff. At 99 points, ETH also recorded one of the best scores for sustainability.
Imperial College London improved from 4th to 2nd place, while Oxford University dropped from top spot to third. Thereafter follow exclusively British universities, until Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL) University in 9th place. With a score of 93 points, the second swiss university, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, is ranked in 10th place.
The University of Zurich scored 79.9 points to finish in 36th place, while the University of Geneva is ranked 53rd, the University of Basel is in 80th place, the University of Bern is 84th and the University of Lausanne 101st. The University of Fribourg, University of Italian Switzerland and Zurich University of Applied Sciences occupy 237th, 245th and 338th place respectively.
In total, 685 institutions in 42 countries were evaluated. The UK was most strongly represented with a total of 103 universities, followed by Turkey with 72 and Germany with 53. ce/mm
