Kloten/East Hartford - SR Technics, based in Kloten in the Swiss canton of Zurich, is now an official member of the global network for the maintenance of Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan engines. It has celebrated the official opening of both a workshop – for the disassembly, assembly and testing of these engines for the Airbus A320neo series – and Test Cell 2. The facility will reportedly create 400 jobs.

SR Technics has officially opened a new maintenance facility for Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan (GTF) engines and a refurbished second test cell at Zurich Airport. Representatives of the aerospace company based in East Hartford in the US state of Connecticut, as well as business partners and all employees of the site were in attendance.

In April 2022, SR Technics signed an agreement with Pratt & Whitney to become the 17th location in the global GTF network. According to a statement, SR Technics plans to service around 1,000 GTF engines from the Airbus A320neo series during the contract period, having started work on its first engine in July. A total of 400 jobs will reportedly be created at the facility over the next few years, writes the statement.

Since 2022, the MRO service provider for aircraft engines, parts and components has invested tens of millions of Swiss francs in the Kloten site. The investment has been channelled into facilities, special tools, maintenance equipment, employee training and the new second engine test cell.

“During the last 18 months, the SR Technics’ team has put great work into setting up new teams and new infrastructure,” Owen McClave, Chief Executive Officer at SR Technics, is quoted as saying. “This investment paves a new chapter for future business in our company.” Rob Griffiths, Senior Vice President Commercial Engines Operations at Pratt & Whitney, is confident that SR Technics, with more than 90 years of experience, “will play an integral role in supporting the growing GTF fleet around the world”. ce/mm
