Bellinzona - The Switzerland Innovation Park Ticino has been opened. The Switzerland Innovation Park SA was established in parallel, a non-profit organization for the park’s management.

In connection with the inauguration of the new Switzerland Innovation Park Ticino in Bellinzona, the eponymous Switzerland Innovation Park Ticino SA was created. According to a press release from the cantonal government of Ticino, the non-profit corporation will be responsible for managing the park.

The Switzerland Innovation Park Ticino is being integrated into the existing network of six innovation parks operating across Switzerland. The successful inauguration of the park and establishment of the management company were the final steps toward integration into the Switzerland Innovation network, a process that was started in 2021. The park currently is currently building on three competence centers: the Swiss Drone Competence Center, which works on developing modern drones at Riviera Airport Lodrino; the Life Sciences Competence Center in Bellinzona in the field of medicine and medical technology development; and the Lifestyle Tech Competence Center in Lugano specializing in lifestyle.

The aim of the innovation park is to develop and harness national and international synergies with other research centers, such as the Milano Innovation District (MIND), which was created on the site of EXPO2015.

The innovation park will be managed by the newly created society from now on with the involvement of the canton, the state bank BancaStato, the chamber of industry, trade, and services for the canton of Ticino (CC-TI), the Ticino Industry Association (AITI), the the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI).

Thomas Gfeller, CEO of the foundation Switzerland Innovation, comments in the press release: “The Switzerland Innovation Park Ticino, its research topics, and integration into the network have raised Switzerland Innovation to a new height.” He added: “The strong support from local stakeholders is testimony to the great efforts to create significant innovations in the region.” ce/ww
