2025 was a strong year for the Greater Zurich Area: 98 companies chose the region as their business location. Most expansions were in actively promoted focus industries, highlighting where future value creation is taking shape – at the intersection of research, talent, entrepreneurship and industrial application, particularly in AI, robotics, autonomous systems, biotech, and food & agritech.

In collaboration with cantonal and regional partners, the Greater Zurich Area supported 98 international expansion projects. A significant share of these expansions was in key technologies such as blockchain, biotech & pharma, artificial intelligence, as well as robotics and autonomous systems – fields defined by strong innovation and clear future relevance.

The leading key technologies stand for technological excellence, economic potential, and international competitiveness, while confirming their role as key drivers of growth. Biotech & pharma and blockchain have been among the strongest sectors in location marketing for years – with blockchain seeing renewed momentum in 2025. Artificial intelligence remains a dynamic field, driving innovation across a wide range of industries. Technologies with a strong sustainability focus – such as food & agritech and autonomous and intelligent systems – are also gaining importance and contributing to the transformation of key industries.
