New cantonal railway station Uri officially opened
Altdorf - The new cantonal railway station in Altdorf, the capital of the canton of Uri, commenced operations on December 12. Despite the pandemic situation, this major infrastructure project was completed in less than two years. The new and improved connections mean that the canton of Ticino and northern economic centers are more easily reachable from Altdorf.

Zürich/Paris – The first experiment involving a transfer of central bank digital currency in Europe has been successful. The transaction was carried out between banks based in Switzerland and France. The parties involved included SIX, the Bank for International Settlements, the Swiss National Bank and Banque de France.
BCG purchases Climeworks’ CO2 capture service
Zurich/Boston - Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has signed a ten-year agreement for Climeworks to capture some of the unavoidable CO2 emissions it makes from the air and permanently store this underground. BCG will additionally support the company with scaling up its business model worldwide.

Swiss Federal Railway invests CHF 460 million in new Ticino plant
Bern/Arbedo-Castione TI - SBB intends to spend around 460 million francs on its new plant in Arbedo-Castione. The canton and the city of Bellinzona are contributing a further 120 million francs. Around 440 new jobs will be created as a result. The plant will go into operation in 2027.
Synpulse and Thought Machine collaborating

Holcim building 3D-printed settlement
Zug - Holcim has announced its intention to construct a residential complex of 3D-printed houses in Kenya. The project will comprise 52 houses in total and is the largest of its kind in Africa. The aim is to accelerate the breakthrough of 3D-printing for affordable housing applications.
