Because it is difficult to measure how much pain a patient is suffering, Mundipharma is developing a platform based on artificial intelligence that can objectively calculate pain severity and an appropriate treatment.
Involved in the development of the platform are two startup companies, announced a statement. One of them is Biovotion from Zurich. Its wristband continuously monitors a patient’s important health data, including pulse, breathing rate, blood oxygen level and how well blood is circulating. The second partner is Biofourmis, a Singapore-based startup that has developed a health platform based on artificial intelligence.
"The ability to objectively assign a value to pain has the potential to transform how clinicians assess and manage their patients,” commented Raman Singh, Mundipharma CEO. He added that there is currently significant room for improvement within the issue of subjective pain management. His company is using machine learning to address the problem.
